Editors Note:

At the end of this Long Form Essay, I am going to post an excerpt from the Final Draft Version of my book Enoch’s Journey: Seven Steps to ‘Was Not.’ The excerpt is titled “Battle Plans: A Dialogue.” It is my version of a Conversation that took place between God & Joshua, when God gave Joshua the Seven Day Plan to make the Walls of Jericho Fall and Take the Promised Land.

The Book Publisher edited my Final Draft Version and left out some funny lines that I will Post on my Website Only, at the end of the full version of this Long Form Essay … Enjoy!

… Day Six For Joshua …

So what did Day Six for Joshua look like anyway? …

How did he feel? …

What did the ‘neighbors’ think? …

In the Book of Joshua (6) the Lord of Heavens Armies, Jehovah Sabaoth, gave Joshua the ‘Battle Plans’ regarding how to overcome the Walls of Jericho, take the City of Jericho, and finally begin to take Full Possession of the Promised Land. The plan included specific instructions from God, for seven consecutive days. Obviously, they had to follow these instructions to the Letter in order to Finally see the Promises of God Fulfilled in their lives and take possession of the Promised Land.

There is an old saying that reads “… Something happened on the way to the Forum …” No not the one in Inglewood, CA where Magic Johnson played for the Lakers, this one probably refers to something in Ancient Rome. Anyway, it means that …

… a person who Hears God make them a Promise and then sets about the task of following God’s Vague but Specific Instructions … may begin to engage in some recriminating Self-Doubt … on the way to seeing the Promise Fulfilled …

BUT I am here to tell you that you have got to be “All In” – in order to Take Full Possession of the Promised Land and enter into your ‘Was Not!’

There Is Only One Way That This Can End!

If you consider the story of Joshua and the City of Jericho, I believe that this will provide you with a good picture of what may occur with us as we progress toward the Fulfillment of our Promises from God. Joshua was one of the original scouts, sent by Moses to scout the Promised Land, beginning with Jericho (Numbers 13 & 14). He and Caleb were the only two that Completely Believed and Trusted God’s Word to the extent that they were ready to charge up and take possession of the Promised Land despite the presence of Giants who occupied that Land.

Not so coincidentally, Joshua and Caleb were the only two from that generation of Spies and generally from the Nation of Israel who survived to Lead them into the Promised land some forty years later. Joshua knew that God had Promised that they would take Full Possession of the Land Promised to Abraham’s descendants. Thus, “… if God be for us who can be against us? …” became his mantra (Romans 8:31). He Believed God, took His Word at face value and was “All In” despite the presence of the Giants that scared the other ten scouts and the rest of the Children of Israel, sans Moses.

Joshua knew that “there is ONLY ONE WAY that All of This can End …

The Walls of Jericho will Fall Down …

And We Will Take Full Possession of the Promised Land!”

So, when God Approached Joshua, who was now the Leader of the Children of Israel and provided him with the Battle Plans for Taking Possession of the Promised Land, Joshua once again Believed everything that God Said. He took those Plans to the Children of Israel and they were also ready to be “All In” and do whatever God told them to do in order to take Full Possession of the Promised Land.

Groundhog’s Day(s)

However, at times and on Day Six, it must have become a bit more difficult to justify, OR rationalize, OR understand, AND continue to Completely Trust the Plans of God. God basically told the Children of Israel to walk around the Walls of Jericho, with Seven Priests out front blowing short sounds on the Shofar or Ram’s Horns, while the rest of the Armies of Israel walked one circuit around that same wall in complete silence. They were not to utter a word while simultaneously taking one trip around the Walls of the City of Jericho.

Day One: Joshua and the Israelites begin, while the Citizens and Armies of Jericho, perched atop the Walls of their fortified city, must have been wondering ALOUD “… what in the world are these fools doing? …” Now they had heard about what Jehovah Sabaoth had done on behalf of the Children of Israel regarding taking land on the East Side of the Jordan River. So, they were afraid of the battle prowess of the Children of Israel and their God.

They knew that their City of Jericho was the next city to be conquered. They also knew that their city was a part of the scouting mission, that occurred some forty years prior to this marching, that the Children of Israel were now engaging. They were scared … but they also must have thought “… what in the world are these fools doing? …”

Joshua and the Children of Israel walk around the Walls of Jericho … Day One …

Joshua and the Children of Israel walk around the Walls of Jericho … Day Two …

Joshua and the Children of Israel walk around the Walls of Jericho … Day Three …

… Day Four … Day Five …

We Are Either All Wrong … OR ‘All In’

… So now we are on … Day Six …

Joshua had to have a moment of pause on AT LEAST ONE of those days … right? …

We get out there on these ‘Faith Walks’ somewhere ‘between the enemy and the deep blue sea’, … and we have our own moment of pause.

We may say to ourselves … ‘God did I hear you correctly? I mean … I know I did … but … I been walkin’ around this Wall in COMPLETE SILENCE for Six Days! … I only got one more day to go! … And the only difference on Day Seven is that I walk around Seven Times, Blow the Horns one LONG TIME … And BOOM! … Walls fall down … and we Waltz into the Promised Land! … Yeah … None of this sounds Crazy to You Right? …’

It is at this moment of logical pause, the opposite of Walking by Faith, that we have to decide if we are Going to Be ‘All In.’ We have to remind ourselves that God Spoke to Us, Confirmed His Word to Us, and He has never let us down before, as long as we follow His Instructions to the Letter!

But Still … we feel a little … GOOFY … Crazy even … Everyone is Doubting Us … Some Out Loud … Some in Secret … But we can hear their whispers … They are perched atop the Walls of Jericho calling us crazy! And Truth Be Told … we are doing an Internal Sanity Check ourselves …

It is at this point where we have to just say to ourselves, on Day Six of walking around the Walls of Jericho, that ‘… either I did not Hear God Speak AND Confirm His Word to me … And I am ALL WRONG … OR … I am … Right Now! … No Turning Back! … ‘All In!’

Well … I am going to unwaveringly follow God and His Instructions to the Letter … Finish the Fight … ‘Darn the Torpedoes! … Full Speed Ahead!’ …

Either I am Totally Nuts … All Wrong … Or ‘All In’ … on what I know God Said to me and I am going to Finish carrying out His Instructions to the Letter and Get to The Promised Land!

That is when you start to have a ‘Faith IS Reality’ Check occur because that is when God starts to Reinforce your Faith and say to you ‘You know it was I AM who Spoke to you … you Know You Heard me Correctly … Believe and Doubt it Not … I AM not only Confirmed it for you before you walked around that Wall on Day One … But Remember my Confirmation on Day Three … after you guys got back to Camp … And remember last night after Day Five when I AM Confirmed my Word for you again … Now all you have to do is Finish Day Seven and let I AM do the Rest!’

Well … we know what happened with Joshua & The Children of Israel …

But the Story yet to be told …

As we are currently on our Personal Day Six is …

Will we move past that Sanity Check …

Go ‘All In’ …

Finish Strong …

And Receive the Perfect & Complete, Lacking Nothing Version of the Promised Land …

Battle Plans: A Dialogue

God gave Joshua the battle plan. The battle plan stated that they should gather as many qualified archers from each of the twelve tribes, as could be found. Then they should have the archers stand on the highest bluffs, opposing Jericho, preparing to pick off anyone foolish enough to go to the top of the formidable Jericho Wall. After all; the Tribe of Benjamin could shoot arrows with either hand (1 Chronicles 12:1-2).

Next, … Wait! None of that happened.

The Battle is the Lord’s

The battle plans that God laid out for Joshua were quite simple (2 Chronicles 20:15). Gather up every one of the children of Israel. And tell the Priests to get out in front of the Congregation of Israel. Make sure that they are carrying the Ark of the Covenant, which we will get to next; out in front of Israel.

Jehovah Sabaoth: Now, listen closely Hosea, I want you guys to walk!

Joshua: Oh, ok YHWH; walk with the Ark, thus the Presence of God out front, and weaken the wall so we can shoot grappling hooks into it with ropes attached. Then we all climb up the ropes, surrounding the city and with our swords, bows, and arrows strapped to our backs; …

Then, God, You will give us the VICTORY OVER OUR ENEMIES (Psalm 18:47, NCV)!

Jehovah Sabaoth: No. Walk in complete silence, one circuit around the Wall. Do this for six consecutive days …

Got it? …

Joshua: Ok, with you so far …

Jehovah Sabaoth: Now, on the seventh day Joshua, this is what you must do. You walk around that same wall, seven times! But this time; on the seventh day …

Now remember, continue to leave your: grappling hooks, ropes, bows, and arrows back in the camp at Acacia Grove or Shittim (Joshua 2:1, NLT) …

… Sit ‘em in Shittim! …

Only this time, Josh, you will need to carry some weaponry.

Joshua: Ok, God! Now, we are cooking with hot fish grease!

Jehovah Sabaoth: Now pay attention Joshua; tell the priests to bring their Shofars! The Ram’s Horns! …

Joshua: Ok, … Ram’s Horns, huh? …

Wait … One question, Lord? Just the hollowed out horns? …

With no rams attached to them horns?

Jehovah Sabaoth: Nope! Just the hollowed out horns …

Then, I want you guys to tell the priests to blow those horns with all of their MIGHT!

Joshua: Oh, ok; blow them at the wall …

and you will Supernaturally empower them …

with the Ruach, Breath of God! …

And this will weaken the wall! …

And THEN I can send Othniel back to Shittim …

… Where We Sat ‘Em …

… To get the swords, and bows, AND …

Jehovah Sabaoth: Nope! …

Just blow the Ram’s Horns, man! …

Follow Me …

This is not complicated! …

Now, … and don’t lose the Pace … you know how important that is to I AM! … Now, this next part is critical! After all of the priests, blow their shofars! I want you guys to SCREAM AT THE TOPS OF YOUR LUNGS!

Joshua: Scream? …

Jehovah Sabaoth: Yep, Scream!

Joshua: Ok, Elohim! …

Now I Get It! …

We Scream! …

So You can disorient the citizens of Jericho! …

Yea!!! … And then You will get Rahab to come open the door! And then we will …

Jehovah Sabaoth: Nope! Just scream!

Now Joshua, …

Here’s the big pay off!

Are you ready for this? …

The Big Kicker! …

Le Pièce De Résistance! …

Wait For IT! …

… The walls will ALL FALL DOWN!

Selah

(Insert Selah; a Long Pause, here)

The Lord of Heavens Armies

Joshua: Ok, Yahweh Tsebaoth, The Lord of Heavens Armies. Let me get this straight? Just so I can tell YOUR people. …

… For the first six days, …

… Priests out front, …

… Total silence, …

… Walk around wall …

… One time! …

Just want to get it straight for Your People. …

Seventh Day, …

… Walk around seven times, …

… Priests bring your horns, …

… Blow them! …

… Everybody scream, …

… Walls fall down? …

Jehovah Sabaoth: Yep, you’ve got it? …

Any Questions? …

Joshua: No, Sir, El Shaddai, God Almighty, The Self Existent OneYahweh Elohim. …

… None, Sir …

… WAIT! …

… One question? …

… Are You sure? …

Jehovah Sabaoth: Absolutely! …

I do not sit around Heaven wondering if I AM wrong! …

(where do you think Jones got that from?)

Joshua: Ok, … no problem … just … checkin’ …

Battle Plans: Part Two

Joshua returns to the Children of Israel, relays the message. And everybody prepares their walking shoes. Now Joshua, I am certain, via the Lord’s Direction, had the unarmed fighting men, for the six days, walk out in front of the Ark of the Covenant (Joshua 6:6-12, 13, & 14-27). And, of course, because of their Submissive Obedience; everything went according to God’s Plans, in order to fulfill His Purpose. And at the end of this experience, Joshua’s reputation spread throughout Canaan!
